At this event we had an overview of how state government works. Discussion topics included; how a bill becomes a law, a presentation on state government and how to get involved with their government.

The Guthrie Theatre offer the opportunity to experience a wide range of theatre topics and techniques. This event will be an empowering, fun and education afternoon at the Guthrie learning about the art of stage combat.

Sisterhood Boutique Internship Introduction.  You will learn how to dress mannequins, inventory donations, 5 steps to customer service and a sewing intro!

Youth Farm

Location: We will leave PAL at 1:30pm for 3644 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis.

At Youth Farm, they farm to grow, grow leaders, communities, and of course, food. Youth Farm uses gardening as their main tool, but also recognizes the importance, as well as practice cooking and/or utilizing the food they grow in the program. Growing food not only provides for yourself, it can also help provide for the people around you, and at Youth Farm they are all about community involvement. Youth Farm wants people to feel ownership in the spaces they are involved in.

At Youth Farm, they farm to grow, grow leaders, communities, and of course, food. You will practice some if not all of the 7 major gardening skills thoroughly. Some of the skills you will practice will be watering, weeding, thinning, mulching, seeding, transplanting, and harvesting, which is a large category itself.

June 22 – 25th

Weekend at Camp Bluewater

Location: Three nights at Camp Bluewater! 

Mothers are welcomed to this event! We will spend three nights at Camp Bluewater, a lodge retreat located about 20 miles away from Grand Rapids.

There is hiking and canoeing, basketball and volleyball net!

If your mother is interested in joining us, please let me know. We will meet sometime in April to being the planning process.

Spruce Flowers and Home

Location: Your own transportation must be provided.

Time: 1 p.m.  

During the class, each participant will learn how to arrange a centerpiece suitable for a dining table, coffee table or desk. We will talk about vase selection, flower selection and care, how to cut flowers and the technique used to create a simple arrangement. We will be working with a variety of seasonal late spring flowers.

We will talk about how to select the right types of flowers for the vase we will be using and how to use color and texture to create interest in the design. Everyone will take home their creations to enjoy!

Unique Handmade Greeting Cards and Beautiful Beaded Earrings

Join your host, Barb Geiger, to create unique handmade greeting cards and beautiful beaded earrings. Perfect for a birthday, thank you or Mother's Day gift! Barb Geiger is a Minneapolis designer, teacher and artist whose love of fiber, paper, beadwork and needle art is fueled by her passion for creativity and working with aspiring artists of all ages. She derives inspiration from spending time outdoors and from volunteering to end hunger and homelessness.

Barb has spent her entire career in human services, working on behalf of families, youth, children, the elderly and those with disabilities.

Books for Africa

Location: Depart PAL at 11:30 and return around 3:00

Books for Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 36 million books to 49 different countries since 1988. Over the past 12 months they have shipped 2.4 million books, 154 computers and 62 e-readers containing 467,000 digital books, as well as 7 new law and human rights libraries to 25 African countries. More than $1.5 million was raised last year to ship the books to the students of Africa.  

At BFA’s warehouses in St. Paul, Minnesota and Atlanta, Georgia, volunteers sort and pack books according to category and age level. No heave lifting is involved. This volunteer opportunity is something you can add to your resume or application for future jobs.

Visit Evine studio with Wendi Russo

Location: Depart PAL at 1:00p.m. returning approximately at 5:00p.m.

You will experience a behind- the -scenes look at what happens on a network television set. You will be able to watch live presentations, and even try your hand at selling something on a real set! Do you have the gift of gab? We will soon find out!

Wendi Russo is a full-time television host with the Home Shopping Network, Evine in Eden Prairie Minnesota. Over her 12 year career, she has sold everything from jewelry, beauty, fashion, accessories, to home and electronics. Having the gift of gab, Wendi has hosted over 8,500 hours of Live, and scripted television in over 80 million homes.

Beadhive - Beads, Supplies and Inspiration!

Location: We will depart PAL at 1:30p.m. for Beadhive, 5458 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN  

You will be able to choose from all the supplies available on the table and everyone makes 2 projects, a bracelet and a necklace. A knowledgeable teacher will help with design, consultation, and managing the attachment of clasps to the jewelry.
